Tour Description:

DAY 1 – Arrive in Cape Town Private City and Table Mountain Half Day tour & transfer to Hotel
On arrival at Cape Town Airport you are met by our representative at the aiport and enjoy a half day tour of the City and Table Mountain

Private City and Table Mountain Half Day tour

Our private half day tour of Table Mountain and Cape Town begins an ascent of Table Mountain by cable car for a panoramic view of the whole of the Cape Peninsula. (The cable car tickets are for your own account as the ascent is weather dependent.) Afterwards you travel into the city where you first see the Castle of Good Hope, the original fort of Cape Town built in 1652 and now painstakingly restored. The Castle was built by the Dutch between 1666 and 1679 to replace their original mud-walled fortress. The Castle's main entrance at first faced the sea, which in those days almost lapped at its walls. From there you continue to the lovely flower market and the historic centre of Cape Town with its many 18th century buildings where you enjoy a stroll through the Company Gardens past the Parliament buildings. Finally you explore the picturesque Malay quarter, a historic sector of the city with original Malay buildings and narrow streets before ending the tour at the Waterfront and harbour.

Protea Hotel Breakwater Lodge, Family room, Breakfast

Protea Hotel Breakwater Lodge is situated next to Cape Town's premier shopping and entertainment area, the V & A Waterfront. The restaurants, bars and shops are all within easy walking distance of the hotel. Once a 19th century prison, the Breakwater Lodge now offers comfortable and affordable accommodation in the grounds of the Graduate Business School for Cape Town. Accommodation at the Breakwater Lodge comprises 191 bedrooms  in three separate buildings  (including 42 Family Suites). The rooms are quite small but all comfortable, welcoming and stylishly furnished with LCD TV, telephone and tea/coffee facilities. The family suites are a particular good option with two bedrooms sharing one bathroom. (Please note that some have double beds and a bath in the bathroom; some have twin beds and the bathroom has a shower only.) Breakwater Lodge has a restaurant in one of the buildings as well as gym, Transit lounge with computer access (for early arrivals/late check-outs) and Prokidz lounge with childrens' entertainment facilities. Laundry facilities are also available and there are wireless internet hotspots located throughout the hotel.

Cape Town

Cape Town is one of the most beautifully situated cities in the world. Cradled by Table Mountain, it has immense charm and historical interest whilst its unique cultural blend; part African, part European and part Asian, makes for a cosmopolitan dining experience. Take the cable car or walk up Table Mountain, visit the colourful Malay quarter or meander through the wonderful Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Browse through the vibrant Greenmarket Square, take a boat trip to Robben Island or simply relax on the beach. When you want to range further, the Cape Peninsula offers one of the finest coastal drives in Africa to the Cape of Good Hope. Here you might see whales breeching just off the bay or quirky African penguins on Boulder's beach.

DAY 2 -  Private Family Cape Peninsula full day tour overnight Cape Town

Private Family Cape Peninsula full day tour

We have become Family Travel specialists for South Africa over the last few years and this is a tour that we have done in various shapes and forms during that time. We take our Cape Peninsula tour and we add in some additional family activities and excursions perhaps shortening other aspects of the tour to compensate. However we tailor this day according to the age of your children and their interests in consultation with you. Typically we collect your family at 9am (but the time can be changed by you.) As well as meandering along the scenic coastal drive of Chapman’s Peak, visiting the Cape of Good Hope National Park (with its funicular railway and lighthouse) and the penguins at Boulders Beach, we may include a camel ride down to the beach (or just around the estate for younger children) or a boat cruise to see the seals at close hand. Other possibilities could be a visit to an ostrich farm or a tractor ride around a small game reserve to see antelope and buffalo. Tides permitting, we may even end the day with a swim amongst the penguins at Boulders Beach from the small secluded beach there.

Overnight @ Protea Hotel Breakwater Lodge, Family room, Breakfast

Simbavati River Lodge, Family Room, Full Board & Game Drives (2 Nights Stay)

Simbavati River Lodge is an intimate and friendly camp built on the banks of the Nhlaralumi River in the Timbavati Private Game Reserve. The Timbavati is part of the Greater Kruger Park. Shaded by age old Jackalberry and Weeping Boerbean Trees, Simbavati River Lodge comprises three thatched chalets, each with two bedrooms, and four luxury tented rooms all with en-suite facilities. Tents and chalets are comfortably furnished with eco friendly air conditioning or fans. Each has a well appointed en suite bathroom with indoor bath and outdoor shower (or outdoor bath and indoor shower in the case of two tents). The lodge also offers a spacious lounge, bar, dining area on the deck and an expansive deck with breathtaking views over the river. There's also a small plunge pool for relaxing during the heat of the day. Simbavati River Lodge offers game drives in the early morning and evening to ensure game viewing when the animals are most active. Game drives are conducted by experienced rangers and Shangaan trackers in open 4x4 vehicles, with excellent photographic opportunities. You traverse over 12,000 hectares of the finest big game country, with lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo thriving alongside giraffe, zebra and a variety of antelope. Nocturnal animals, including the big cats, are regularly sighted on night drives. Bird watching is wonderful, with various eagles, owls, francolins, kingfishers, rollers and weavers among the over 300 recorded species. Simbavati River Lodge is a child-friendly safari camp with three family chalets available. Children 6 years and over can join their parents on game drives. However families with younger children can request a private landrover and guide

Timbavati Game Reserve

The vast Timbavati Private Game Reserve borders the Kruger National Park to the north.  You are likely to see large elephant herds and you'll have a good chance of spotting many of the so-called 'Big 5' - elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard and rhino as well a variety of smaller mammals. The Timbavati is known for the White Lion of Tiumbavati, a unique sub-species. Leopard are also very good but you are perhaps slightly less likely to see rhino in the Timbavati. Cheetah, wild dog and leopard are also frequently seen moving through the reserve. Due to a long history of sensitive game-viewing, the animals are quite relaxed allowing for superb viewing.
